3. Election of Officers:
(a) All elections for Officer positions with this Union will be for two (2) year terms with elections and terms defined as follows:
(i) President whose term shall be of a duration of two (2) years, is to be elected in even numbered years;
(ii) Secretary - whose term shall be of a duration of two (2) years, to be elected in odd number years;
(iii) Treasurer, whose term shall be of a duration of two (2) years to be elected in even numbered years.
(iv) 1st Vice-President, whose term shall be of a duration of two (2) years, to be elected in odd number years.
(v) 2nd Vice – President, whose term shall be of a duration of two (2) years, to be elected in even numbered years.
(b) Counting of ballots will be done by the Elections Committee.
(c) Any member accepting nomination for an Officer position of this Local or as a delegate shall not be eligible to serve on the Election Committee.
(d) Election shall be made from the nominations by a ballot of the members of this Union. Printed ballots shall be distributed to all fire stations and every member of the Union who receives a ballot will sign a form acknowledging its receipt.
(e) The ballot will be taken on a day set by the Election Committee at the nominating meeting. The Election day shall not be less than two (2) nor more than sixteen (16) days following the May regular meeting. Should further balloting be necessary, it shall take place on a given date not more than fourteen (14) days following the preceding ballot. There shall be no voting by proxy in any election of Officers.
(f) Ballots may be cast on the above listed dates from 07:00 hours to 19:00 hours inclusive.
(g) It shall require a majority of the ballots cast to be elected to the office of President of this Union. If no candidate receives a favourable majority on the first ballot, the candidate receiving the least number of votes will be dropped from the ballot and a second vote taken.
(h) With the exception of the office of President, election of any Officer and/or Delegate will be decided by a plurality vote.
(i) A candidate for election will be allowed one (1) representative at the counting of ballots if he/she so desires.
(j) Following the counting of the ballots, the ballots and all other records of the election shall be turned over to the Secretary-Treasurer of this Union, who will preserve them for a period of one (1) year.
(k) The installation of Officers who have been duly elected shall take place at the regular meeting in June of each year and said newly installed Officers shall take office immediately upon installation.
(l) Notice of nomination meetings and election dates shall be posted in all fire stations fourteen (14) days prior to the said meetings and elections being held.
4. Vacancy of Officer: Should there be a vacancy of an officer position of this Union whose term has in excess of four (4) months remaining in duration, due to resignation, death or removal for just cause, then such vacancy will be filled by election. The election will be for the remainder of the duration of the term and shall be held in accordance with the requirements specified in Article X of this Constitution and Bylaws.
